I know we have many brothers from the great state of Michigan. This is a very interesting article from The Gospel Coalition (TGC) concerning the revival that is happening in the Christian Reformed Church (which is the 3rd largest reformed denomination in the United States), based in Grand Rapids, MI. The reformation occurring today is coming from the young and ethnic minorities. As the author rightly states, it is very unusual for a denomination heading into the abyss of liberalism, to suddenly swing back to historical biblical sexuality.
There is one word that pops out: hermeneutics. If you have not taken a class in hermeneutics, LOOK UP at the top of the page for free Bible classes. Blue Letter Bible also offers a free course. Also, RC Sproul’s “Knowing Scripture” is the gold star standard as a resource. The churches have gotten into this mess by their biblical interpretation.
Before, I would not have recommended a CRC congregation, but now I think (depending on visiting and interviewing the pastors), the Ancient Paths would be a good partner with many of these churches.
Brothers, the issue swung on sexuality, and the reformation of this denomination is by all accounts, from God. Now, if I were looking for a church, CRC wouldn’t be my first choice– I prefer churches that didn’t fall into the abyss in the first place. However, if this denomination is the only one around, I say give them a shot. If God is involved, EACH ONE OF YOU have a tremendous story to add to the conversation.
Let’s not get twisted: the mere fact a denomination recovers itself is a hearty example God still works on a large scale for those returning to His Word with a high view of Scripture. We should be singing His praises!
For those in Michigan, I will assign a watchman to oversee the AP outreach to CRC. So big is the project, it will likely need its own channel.
